My personal opera journey has been pretty distinct in how much self-discovery has come directly from it: I’ve gone from performing trouser roles without knowing why I found them easy to understand, to coming out as a trans man. Now I perform octave-swapped roles sometimes, which I hope will become more common in future. I can’t leave the stage alone even when I’m not performing - I work as a stage manager, sometimes performing and working backstage in the same show!
I was a school science technician for 5 years before pursuing singing, and I also studied for a degree in Mathematics in the evenings. I now spend my time playing video games and I’ve filled up my flat with collectibles, including the Master Sword hanging on my wall!
