“I’m Sam, a fledgeling bass who was drawn to the operatic world because of its depth of sound, heightened drama, and gloriously exaggerated storytelling. I feel empowered by the commanding gravity of the lower register and the presence it brings to the stage. Alongside any solo work, I sing in choirs and play the piano, didgeridoo and trombone. I’m particularly interested in medieval music and enjoy experimenting with improvisation in a medieval style on both piano and voice.
I grew up in Towcester and have always been fascinated by how stories can be told through the use of music. Outside opera, I’m passionate about woodturning and ecology, and I find constant inspiration in the natural world.”
