Toi toi toi

Make a donation, help BYO continue to offer opportunities like their summer programme, and pass a short message on to our participants.

In opera, we have a long‑standing tradition of saying toi toi toi before a performance – a good‑luck charm with roots in old German folklore. Singers once spat three times to ward off bad spirits and misfortune. Over time, the superstition evolved into the spoken phrase we use today.

If you’d like to send the cast, creative team and production staff your own toi toi toi – a message of good luck, encouragement, and protection from any lurking bad spirits – you can do so by making a small donation here. You’ll be able to attach a personal note, and we’ll share your message with the company.

Your words will mean a great deal to our participants, and your support helps ensure that programmes like BYO’s continue to thrive.
