Gala 2018

This year, our Gala will take place amidst the splendour of Drapers’ Hall, an historic building and home to the Drapers’ Company, one of the twelve great livery companies of the City of London.  The Drapers’ Company was founded over 600 years ago and in keeping with this rich history, Drapers’ Hall is considered to be one of the finest spaces in London. We are delighted to hold our 2018 Winter Gala in this magnificent setting.

At the heart of our evening will be a performance by British Youth Opera Alumni.  This year, in celebration of the centenary year of Leonard Bernstein, our Alumni will perform excerpts from Bernstein’s stage works under the direction of Stuart Barker, BYO’s Director of Training and Productions.  Featured works will include Candide, Trouble in Tahiti and West Side Story

A Silent Auction, held over a splendid three-course meal, will provide the opportunity to bid for a wide selection of exciting items.  Dinner will be followed by a Live Auction of unique and exceptional opportunities, offered exclusively for our event.  We are delighted that for the second year running, the auctioneer Edward Rising will preside over bidding.

The Winter Gala is British Youth Opera’s major annual fundraising event.  It plays a crucial part in our ability to offer the highest possible standards to training, free of charge, to the young singers and other opera professionals who deserve it most.  During the evening, you will have the opportunity to meet our Alumni and hear more about British Youth Opera’s vital contribution to the future of opera and to the development of young opera professionals as they embark upon very challenging but exciting careers.
