Production Electricians & Lighting Programmers

 

WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE ROLE OF PRODUCTION ELECTRICIAN / LIGHTING PROGRAMMER

British Youth Opera is the UK's foremost training opera company, and the only one of its kind offering such opportunities to emerging lighting programmers.
 
BYO’s summer season productions offer two positions for Production Electricians  and Programmers:
• Trainee 1 will take the role of Programmer for Opera A and Production Electrician for Opera B.
• Trainee 2 will take the role of Programmer for Opera B and Production Electrician for Opera A.
 
These positions are ideally suited to students in their second or third year of study on a full time lighting course; recent graduates; or those at the start of their careers. Applicants should have programming experience, preferably on an ETC family desk.

There is one professional Lighting Designer and one professional Head of Lighting for the summer season. The Production Electricians / Programmers work with the Lighting Designer and Head of Lighting from the start of the creative process through to closing night.
 
The Production Electrician responsibilities include:
• Preparatory work with the Head of Lighting to ensure that the correct equipment is delivered on time
• Work with the Head of Lighting to ensure lighting equipment is well maintained and suitable for the demands of the production
• Attend production meetings and liaise with other members of the production and creative teams
• Perform Electrics cues during the performances as necessary
 
The Programmer responsibilities include:
• Programming lighting on an ETC family desk.
• Operate lighting for performances.
• Attend production meetings and liaise with other members of the production and creative teams
• Work with the Assistant Lighting Designer and opposite Production Electrician/Programmer to re-light the Operas between performances.
• Work with the Assistant Lighting Designer and Assistant Director to adapt lighting from the full-length productions for cover showings
 

For Summer Season 2019:
Production Electricians and Programmers are required from mid August until the end of the season on 7 September 2019.

To Apply please complete the production trainee application form and return it with a CV, covering letter and endorsed by your college tutor*, to interviews@byo.org.uk by the new deadline of 12:00 on Friday 5 April 2019.
Interviews will be held in London in April 2019.

Financial matters:
BYO charges no fees. Every participant who gains a place on a summer season production benefits from a fully-funded placement, and is paid a small subsistence.
Accommodation in London can be provided for a limited number of successful applicants who do not have a London base and would otherwise be unable to participate.
