"British Youth Opera is a true partnership for life between staff, performers, benefactors and audience. Long may it continue to flourish." Dame Janet Baker, BYO Vice President
Each year, around 100 of the country’s most gifted young singers benefit from the high standard of training and professional experience offered by British Youth Opera. Since we began in 1987, we have trained over 1,500 young opera professionals.
It costs BYO on average £5,000 to support each young person through our annual Summer Season training programme and, in order to finance our current level of activity, we need to raise at least £300,000 annually. Support comes from the Arts Council, trusts and foundations, individuals and companies, and all these contributions help us to provide a unique opportunity for the artistic development of our young singers and trainees.
