Sir Mark Elder is well known for his work with singers, and as Music Director of English National Opera for almost fifteen years he was responsible for some of its most successful productions alongside director David Pountney and general director Peter Jonas.

He has been Music Director of the Hallé Orchestra since 1999 and has also recently been appointed Artistic Director of Opera Rara, devoted to restoring and recording forgotten operas of the 19th century. Most recently, he has conducted Fidelio, Adriana Lecouveur and The Tsar's Bride at the Royal Opera House.

In this masterclass he will work with participants from recent BYO Summer Seasons on excerpts from the operatic repertoire, coaching them on aspects of operatic and dramatic technique in the elegant private music room of Sir Vernon and Lady Ellis.
