Assistant Lighting Designers
BYO's Summer Season productions offers one position as Assistant Lighting Designer. This is ideally suited to a Student in the 2nd or 3rd year of Study on a full time Lighting Course.
There is one Lighting Designer (LD) for both summer productions. The assistant works with the LD on both shows from the start of the creative process through to closing night.
The Assistant Lighting Designer's responsibilities include:
- attending Production Meetings and liaising with other members of the production and creative team on preparing the information required for the process in the theatre.
- working closely with the LD in preparation of the Lighting Paperwork.
- attending some production rehearsals.
- being part of the Production Team in Theatre during production rehearsals.
- in association with Assistant Directors on each production, adapting lighting for the cover showings from the full-length productions
- liaising with Theatre crew for each daily changeover of production.
Assistant Lighting Designers require good communication skills as they are required to work closely within the Creative, Production and Theatre Staff teams over the whole process, on many different and practical levels.
For Summer Season productions 2012
The Assistant Lighting Designer will need some availability from late July, then full-time from mid-August through to 15 September.
Repertoire to include:
- Smetana
- The Bartered Bride (in English)
- Weir
- A Night at the Chinese Opera
To apply, please download the application form and return it with your CV and covering letter to marcella@byo.org.uk.
The deadline for receipt of applications is Monday 23 April.
Interviews will be held in London during April/May; applicants should bring a small portfolio showing relevant lighting design, paperwork and (optionally) drawings.
British Youth Opera is the UK's premier company for training new and emerging operatic talent. It offers valuable opportunities for young singers to receive professional training in all aspects of opera through workshops and masterclasses, and to take part in rehearsals and performances in its annual Summer Season of opera at the Peacock Theatre in London.
BYO's primary purpose is to offer operatic experience to those who have a serious aim of pursuing careers in opera performance, are at the start of their careers, and are new to the profession.
BYO is a training organisation; successful candidates do not pay to participate in the Summer Season (for which a contribution towards subsistence will be given).
British Youth Opera regrets that it is unable to provide feedback on interviews or auditions and reserves the right to alter the proposed repertoire.
