Big Give 2017

Date Posted: 27 November 2017
Annual Fundraising Gala Concert and Dinner

We had a splendid evening in the spectacular setting of Goldsmiths’ Hall for our Annual Gala Concert. Having been entertained by our President, Dame Felicity Lott, who performed alongside some of our recent alumni, guests enjoyed a fine dinner.

But this was of course a Fundraising event and our guests bid, pledged and donated with great enthusiasm and commitment. I am delighted to say that early indications are that we have raised a significant sum in the region of £50,000.

We will update you with the exact figure when everything has finally been accounted for but this looks like being one of our most successful Gala evenings. A very big thank you to everyone who made this possible, particularly those who donated so generously. More news on this in due course.

But we cannot rest on our laurels. We still have to raise significant funds (in the region of another £300,000) in order to sustain our level of activities in 2018. Our minds are therefore turning to our next major fundraising venture.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2017

We immediately turn our attention to The Big Give, which has come around with what seems like undue haste!

If you are a regular supporter, The Big Give will be very familiar to you.

Under this initiative, any gift you might choose to make to BYO stands the chance of being doubled by match funding. Match funding is in place in two forms:

  • Firstly, we have pledges from some very loyal supporters.
  • Secondly, Lakehouse Foundation – backers of The Big Give – has made a pot available to us.

If you make a donation online you stand the chance of releasing the same amount from the pots mentioned above, thus doubling the value of your gift.

The only catch is that the matching pot is limited and is released on a first come, first served basis. This year the Challenge starts at noon on Tuesday 28 November and is open until noon on Tuesday 5 December. This match funding is available to a significant number of charities, so if you do decide to give, please make a note in your diary to be online at noon sharp on the 28th with your credit card details to hand. If you miss the matched funding, you will still be able to donate during this one-week window.

In recent years some supporters have chosen to take this opportunity to make a contribution to the following year’s season (for example Adopting a Singer for £1,001, Sponsoring a Performance for £5,000 etc.) and having their generosity doubled. If you would like to discuss such opportunities, please call David Balcombe on 07841 586818.

But any donations, however large or small, are very gratefully received. All go towards making it possible for us to offer more opportunities to young singers and production trainees to participate in our activities.

Thank you in advance for your support.
